Welcome to the 2025 Harvest Report. In this report I record everything I can about the harvest from my allotment.
I’ll also document how planting went.

March 2025
2024 Purple Broccoli now ready
I almost pulled up the Purple Broccoli during 2024 winter. However, out of curiosity I decided to leave it in and see what happened.
Turns out that was the right option as it’s developed beautifully. I now remember reading it took longer than usual to see a harvest from it.
We’ll soon taste the broccoli and I look forward to that. Planting it last year has given me a boost this year. It’s a good start.
March harvest for Rhubarb
It looks like Rhubarb will be again be ready for an early harvest in 2025. Seeing how strong it grows without much input from me has made me realise, I love perennial plants. No need to remember to sow them, just provide a bit of TLC and then you benefit from the harvest.
One thing to note. The Rhubarb is ready for a split, which I had planned to do over Winter, but life got in the way. Plus I was worried about where to plant the extra plants. So this winter I really need to split it.
Apple damage in the storm
We had really bad storms in 2025 and unfortunately the Apple tree took damage. It’s still alive but it was knocked over so all of the apples reported are “windfall” as I rescued them from the ground.
Thoughts for 2025
The harvest table says it all really. 2025 was a failure, in part I was just too busy. I won a big website build for a new freelance client so spent most of my spare time over summer building a website as opposed to having time in the garden.
So watering and weeding was a failure. I’ve also really struggled with geminating seeds.
The things that have done ok, as usual, are the perennial fruit and veg which come back year after year. Apple, Pears, Gooseberry and Rhubarb have all produced.
Just to say, I’m a little down from the 2025 growing season.
